Sidewalk Session | Doc Abbott

Doc Abbott plays a few crowd favorites during a sunny day in Las Animas. Sidewalk Sessions, hosted by Three Twenty Gallery, features a different artist every week.

Dr John Phillip Abbott Born February 3rd 1952 My father was a world war II veteran and very early on I was exposed to primarily jazz and swing music. I do remember on my 12th birthday receiving the album meet the beatles, and it really got me started. Played trumpet for several years and finally got my hands on a guitar in 7th grade and never looked back. First group was high School called the foremost and boy we really were bad but we had a blast. Continued with off and on acoustic guitar for many years through college and medical school, then after moving to Colorado met my longtime friend Cary Carpenter, he was Cary and I was John so we became the John Cary band adding a bass and drums and later a female singer. Hey marvelous 20-year run primarily in local bars around woodland Park colorado, and two CDs, songs of mountain rose, and two cocktails later. Having moved down to Hasty Colorado from woodland Park I basically was unable to continue with the John Cary band, however have continued to try to improve my performance skills, slowly improving on guitar and definitely improving with singing by adding tremolo. My most important song, the coldest war, has also continued to be a lifelong ambition to create a cold war victory monument. Honoring veterans including Korean and Vietnam veterans who were all involved in the Cold war which we won in 1991. And if you haven't noticed the cold war is coming back. Met Stace at the Las animas laundromat, and am definitely impressed with his effort to do something with music and performing and art in the way back town of Las Animas. On August 25, 2020, Actor and songwriter Ben Platt confirmed that principal photography had begun for the film adaptation of the stage play “Dear Evan Hansen”. It was shot in Los Angeles and Atlanta, with primary filming with the main cast taking place in September and expected to end around Thanksgiving. About making the film during the COVID-19 pandemic, Kaitlyn Dever said to Variety, "I'm very happy that we're able to make something so special during such a strange and sad and confusing times ... I have gotten used to the 'doing nothing' part of my job, which is just sitting and waiting for something to happen. Now, I feel like I'm really geared up for this and ready to go.” The high school scenes were filmed at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic High School in Fayetteville, Georgia. The mural in the gym, seen in the opening credits and key parts throughout the film, was completed by Mural Mural On The Wall.
