The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival finally returned after 2 years! They have had a successful first round to the two part event held April 15-17 then April 22-24, let’s talk about some of the highlights.
For the first round Harry Styles, Billie Eilish and EDM pairing Swedish House Mafia and The Weekend would be headlining on the three nights. This was after Kanye West backed out of the event a few weeks before the event. Their performances were as epic as expected and the crowd was thriving from days full of other outstanding performances.
On day 1, one of the first trending and over crowded performances was that of Grupo Firme, with their Mexican thunderous band that had fans screaming every word with them. Justin Bieber also joined the stage with powerful excitement as he sang his iconic song “Peaches”. South Korean hip-hop group Epik High had a spectacular performance, as well proving as to why they were the first Korean based artist to join Coachella back in 2016. Harry Styles wrapped up day one performing some of his hits along with new unreleased music that will be coming out next month. His surprise special guest that joined him that night was pop-country icon, Shania Twain. Together they sang some of her 90’s classics that were written and released when Harry was just a kid. The crowd loved it!
Day 2, Conan Gray had captured the attention of many along with Giveon, who performed mellow but entrancing stages. The stage went through a flow of genre changes on day two for example, a performance from Baltimore band Turnstile followed by Brockhampton’s last ever performance in their careers. Day 2 however was jam packed back to back with iconic performances. Record label 88Rising got the night going with Niki, Rich Brian, Jackson Wang and CL who surprised the whole world with the surprise reunion and performance from 2NE1 after 6 years since their break up. Megan Thee Stallion called every hot girl out there for her dance filled performance leading up to Billie Eilish finishing the night. Her special guest was Gorillaz’s Damon Albarn, similar to Harry Styles, someone who shaped them when they were just kids.
Day 3, Pabllo Vittar, the queer Brazilian singer became the first drag queen to get her own set at Coachella! Banda MS also made their much anticipated appearance with their recognizable shiny suits drawing in a large crowd full of fans. The majority of those fans were still there when reggaeton hit the stage later that night. Lead by Latin female icon Karol G, she gained everyone’s attention with her most popular songs and was joined on stage by DJ Tiesto and Becky G. Doja Cat was another much anticipated performance that had a crowd so large that it was hard to believe she was just an opening act. The Swedish House Mafia and The Weekend closed the first half of Coachella with a fist bumping euphoric experience.
This isn’t even all of the amazing experiences that happened over the weekend, just some of the highlights from each day. Next weekend can’t come fast enough as everyone, especially those attending, can’t wait to see what the artists have in store.
